Police Report - August 2018

This report covers progress we have made in dealing with the policing priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st July to 31st July 2018.

Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
The Antisocial Behaviour calls within area relate primarily to the inconsiderate use of our open spaces and parks during the better weather recently, we would not only urge everyone to use them responsibly clearing up after themselves and showing consideration for local residents but that the local residents remind themselves that the areas are for everyone to use and enjoy.

We have 1 report of an Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (drone) being used in circumstances out with the Air Navigation Order, the operator has been charged and a report has been submitted to the PF.

With one recent local incident in which a drone was seized and its operator charged, we are keen to highlight the existing legislation around the use of drones and the potential risks if they are flown in and around crowded or built-up areas.

Drones are becoming more popular for filming and photographing scenic areas or places of interest but it is essential that they are used responsibly and they do not cause alarm or injury to members of the public.

We would advise drone operators to familiarise themselves with all the appropriate legislation so as to ensure they adhere to existing aviation laws and regulations, and be aware of the areas in our community where drone activity may pose a particular sensitivity.”

Please visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website at the following link:

http://www.caa.co.uk/Consumers/Unmanned-aircraft/Recreational-drones/Recreational-drone-flights/

There have been no reported of vandalisms or assaults during the reporting period.

Acquisitive Crime:
There have been no reports of acquisitive crime during this period. When conducting your night time routine in addition to checking the doors are locked please check you haven’t left your keys in the outside. If you leave the house please lock sheds and side access doors to gardens.
Road Safety & Road Crime:

In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.

We would also remind some of our Adults that whilst for them riding a cycle on the pavement is not allowed for children doing their paper rounds it is ok.
Community Engagement & Reassurance:
Now the schools are back our young people will have formed new friendships and moved into new groups, whilst the evenings are still lighter and the weather good our outdoor spaces are just the place for them.

When we are telling them you stay out longer/explore further because you’re a year on please let that advice include where not to go and the reasons why.

We have a significant number of building sites and derelict buildings within our area which young people are attracted to because they offer excitement and are out of the public view, they all so offer in many cases a significant danger once you have climbed past the security barriers.

We are often asked what I do in the case of a Road Traffic Collision. Do I need to call the Police?

No you do not, unless there is injury and or the road is blocked, if there is no Injury YOU just need to exchange details and move the vehicles to a safe place.
S170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 details what you need to provide and what you are entitled to get back, "The driver of the mechanically propelled vehicle must stop and, if required to do so by any person having reasonable grounds for so requiring, give his name and address and also the name and address of the owner and the identification marks of the vehicle."

Please note this does not include insurance details or phone numbers, the Police will not attend just to apportion blame.

National Campaigns
This time of year a number of our young people look to move away from home and into further education, the advice below will be invaluable in keeping those loved ones safe as well as their property with them.

It can be a daunting time for any young person and their family however significantly more support and advice is available than in years gone by.
