Airyhall Primary School Aspiration Tree

The Community Council was pleased to support an Airyhall Primary School initiative by financing the purchase of an "Aspiration Tree".

Leigh Houston, Depute Head Teacher (P4-P7) at the school said, "Because of recent circumstances our Primary 7 pupils are not allowed to go on their residential trip and will be missing out on a number of transition activities. We thought that we would get the children to plant a tree as a legacy of their time at Airyhall. The classes would paint rocks with memories of their time at the school and lay them around the tree. They would then write their future aspirations on labels or ribbons and tie them to the tree. Thus, creating an Aspiration tree."
Naomi Mandel, Chair of the Community Council said, "Council members agreed that this was a project that was worth supporting.  It is a permanent reminder for the young people as they transition from Primary to Secondary School, reflecting on their time at primary school and considering their aspirations as they move forward."

The Community Council received a nice letter of thanks from the P7 students in which they said, "We will plant the tree in the school Community Garden and the Airyhall pupils will get to see it grow and flourish. We have decided to call this special tree the Aspiration Tree and this will act as a legacy to this year's Primary 7s and all those in the future. We have created some positivity stones to place around the tree to bring some cheer and positivity to the local community. We hope you like them."

The tree was planted on Monday 21 June during a small "in-school" ceremony.

The tree is situated on the foot path between Airyhall Drive and Countesswells Road.

City Centre Masterplan - Have your say

Aberdeen City Council are undertaking a public consultation on the City Centre Masterplan and the beach.  They are asking people to take into consideration how their views on the areas have changed due to coronavirus.

The consultation is seeking views on how important potential improvement is in the city centre including Union Street, the west end, Schoolhill/Upperkirkgate/Belmont Street, and the Castlegate.

People are asked to consider potential improvement projects in these areas and the expected impact of these is also given. For the beach, people are asked to consider sports and leisure activities, public spaces including connection to the city centre, and the Beach Ballroom.
