Green Space Preserved

At the meeting of the City Council Planning and Development Management today (12/1) members were considering the "planning in principal" application by Kingswellies Nursery to build on the green space in Craigton Road, immediately west of Northcote Lodge.

The Community Council had objected on the basis that the plans were a further erosion of the designated Green Space and the Pitfodels conservation zone.

The recommendation to the Committee from their planning officers, was to refuse the application as the criteria to allow development of the Green Space had not been met.  An amendment to allow building was tabled and seconded.

Following a debate a vote was taken, with five members of the Committee in favour of refusal and five members in favour of approval.  The casting vote of the chair was to refuse the application.  As a result the green space has been preserved.

The Community Council stress that it's objection to the application was not the establishment of new nursery provision but was about the incursion of the planned building into the green space and conservation area.  We wish Kingswellies well in securing a more appropriate site to provided much needed nursery place in the city.

Police Report - December 2022

The Community Policing Team have forwarded the following report for our information;

"This report covers progress we have made in dealing with your priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during December 2022.
Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
Early in the month there were a number of calls to the Thorngrove Avenue, and Thorngrove Court area, regarding youth causing annoyance. Officers attended and a number of youths were moved on, and there have been no further reports as the month went on.

Acquisitive Crime:
Whilst it’s not within the boundaries of the Community Council area, on the 20th of December, there was a report of a theft by housebreaking at an address in Macauley Drive. A quantity of money and jewellery were taken. Enquiries are ongoing at this time and CID have taken ownership due to the value of theft.

On Xmas day a stolen vehicle was recovered in the car park at Aberdeen Squash Racquet Club on Cranford Road which had been stolen the previous day in Ellon.  Following a further theft in Ellon, a male was identified and arrested.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
On the 24th , a report was received of a traffic accident where a female driver scraped her vehicle down the side of a parked car in Viewfield Crescent. The driver is described as in her 50’s with 2 mouth studs, and wearing a red jacket, and gave the name of “Kelly”.  The details she gave to the owner of the damaged car appear to be false.

Police Scotland have also been carrying out regular patrols along South Anderson Drive as part of a nation Festive Drink Drive campaign, which has resulted an several drivers being dealt with for Road Traffic Offences

We continue to work with partners in response to specific complaints in terms of road traffic offences. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time, to report incidents and provide as much description as possible of the vehicle(s)/person(s) in order for us to take positive action.

Community Engagement & Reassurance
There continue to be a number of scams reported to Police, with the elderly particularly targeted as a result Crime Reduction would encourage the public to have a look at the attached so that they are familiar with the common ones so they don’t get tricked into parting with money or personal details

Pot Hole Problem in Great Western Road - REPAIRED

Two large and dangerous potholes have appeared in Great Western Road at the bus stop opposite Tesco at Mannofield,  The potholes pose a danger both vehicles and pedestrians.

Their appearance has prompted MSP Liam, Kerr to write to the Council asking for them to be repaired.

In his letter Mr Kerr highlights the hazard for pedestrian who may trip when crossing the road, the potential of damage to cars and the danger to cyclists hitting the potholes.

One of the potholes is so deep he says that, he has been told that when heavy vehicles hit it the properties adjacent vibrate significantly.

He asks the council to carry out an urgent, permanent repair to prevent anyone being injured.

Update 9 Jan 2023 - The holes have been filled.  Liam has asked the Council to undertake a permanent fix as soon as possible.
