Police Report - March 2023

The Local Community Policing Team have circulated the following information for February and Early March 2023:-

"Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

A quiet period with very little crime in your Community Council area, highlighting what a safe area it is to reside and work. The vast majority of calls to Police in this area are regarding concerns, welfare and supporting residents rather than of a criminal nature.

Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:

On the 11th of February a taxi driver called Police requiring assistance with a very drunk male, who was in his taxi on Seafield Road, the male was drunk and aggressive and refusing to get out the taxi. Officers attended and assisted the taxi driver, the male was given a taxi home in the back of the police van and issued with a fixed penalty ticket, which was a lot more expensive than the taxi fare.

On the 21st of February, Police received a report of a group of 5 youths causing issues in the area of MacAulay Place. The 5 youths were ages between 13 and 15 and were knocking on doors and running away. When challenged by one of the residents they ran off. There was no damage. The only distinguishing feature was that 2 of them spoke with English accents.

Acquisitive Crime:
There was a break in to a garage on Springfield Road, on the 23rd of February, this is part of a number of them that occurred across the Westend area and are being dealt with by CID Proactive Unit. They are looking for 2 males who are seen in the area of several of them and would have been on a light coloured scooter. On this occasion the damage had been repaired prior to reporting and as such there were no forensic opportunities.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
Reports of vehicles travelling at excessive speed along Countesswells Road, continue to be an issue, and has been an issue. The CPT Officers that are trained in the use of the speed detection devices regularly go around various locations.

A stolen 125cc motorbike was recovered in Thorngrove Avenue at the start of February The bike was covered with a red tarpaulin in the car park and appears to have been dumped overnight on the 3rd, after being stolen a short time earlier in Rubislaw Square.

Roads Policing continue to patrol the CPT, and seize uninsured vehicles with several across the area this month.

Community Engagement & Reassurance
On the 9th of February a pre-planned search warrant in Craigielea Aveune, this was done in the early morning to minimise risk to officers and cause minimal disruption to local residents. There were a number of calls to the police, due to the large presence, but it was done safely and in accordance with the appropriate tactics. There resident was arrested and charged with a number of offences.

As part of the ongoing report of drug dealing ongoing in Cranford Road, a further drug search warrant was carried out in Craigielea Avenue at the start of March. A small quantity of drugs were recovered from the address and the resident was charged. This is a result of issues identified by the community council and we thank the residents for continuing to provide information to allow the work to continue.

Withdrawal of funding for the No 52 Bus service - update

With the future of the No 52 bus service unclear, the Community Council has written to First Aberdeen asking for clarity.

The withdrawal of council funding does not automatically mean the cessation of the bus service.  It is for First Aberdeen to consider the continuation of the route based on a number of factors, including its profitability.

It is the Community Councils hope that First Aberdeen will continue to run the service as the “Young Person Travel” card will ensure the fares are paid by the Scottish Government and should make the service profitable.

Withdrawal of funding for the No 52 Bus service

The Community Council notes, with regret, that the recent budget cuts announced by the City Council include the withdrawal of the subsidy to the No 52 bus route which provides essential travel for pupils in the catchment area of Hazlehead Academy.  The withdrawal of the subsidy means that the service may be withdrawn.

The Community Council has written to the City Councillors asking for their support in getting the funding re-instated and for the continuation of the service.

If you feel strongly about the need for the service to remain, please feel free to use our letter as a template for contacting our councillors
