"This report covers progress we have made in dealing with your priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council since the last community council meeting.
The report aims to highlight emerging issues in your area, and to provide crime prevention advice and guidance to Community Council members and residents you represent. Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.
Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial Behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
A resident of Duthie Terrace called police in the early hours of 28th August regarding someone repeatedly ringing her doorbell. Officers attended and couldn’t trace anyone in the area. The property was checked and there was nothing found to be untoward.
On the 2nd of September, there were repeated reports of a group of people on Craigielea Avenue causing a disturbance. Officers attended and traced the group who were under the influence of alcohol and were conveyed out the area to prevent any further issues.
Staff at the Co-op on Great Western Road called Police on the 4th of September regarding abusive females within the store. On attendance it transpired that staff had tried to intervene in a dispute between 2 groups of females, at which point they became the focus of the aggression. Officers attended and noted details, several of the females were identified and given warnings.
Police were called to the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on the evening of the 6th of September regarding a male who had been assaulted. On arrival officers established that the victim and accused were brothers and the assault had occurred after they had been at a family function. The accused was quickly traced and charged.
Acquisitive Crime:
Whilst slightly outwith your area, on the 29th of August a report was received from a resident of Braemar Place, who is working abroad. He reported that friends had attended to check on his house that entry had been gained by smashing the large rear patio doors. There is a large timeframe for when the incident could have occurred and it is still ongoing enquiry as the owner is still abroad
On the same day there was a report of two televisions stolen from a summerhouse on Morningside Avenue, where the lock had been removed by using tools that were in the garden. There were no other incidents in the street and as such it appears to have been an opportunistic theft.
I would highlight this incident just as a reminder to be vigilant especially coming into darker nights of Autumn.
An elderly resident of Seafield Road employed door to door workers to clean her patio, whilst there they convinced the resident that her house had subsidence and as a result she felt pressured into paying them £4500 via bank transfer. Despite the company having an Aberdeen name, the bank transactions refer to a company in Cambridgeshire, as such Police are working with Trading Standards to follow up on this and treating it as a fraud.
Again I would urge residents not to use workmen who attend at your door unsolicited.
Road Safety & Road Crime:
On the 24th August officers attended a two vehicle collision at the junction of Cromwell Road and Anderson Drive. An ambulance was also initially called to assist but thankfully they weren’t required after circumstances were established. Both drivers were checked and provided negative breath tests.
The driver of an SGN transit van crashed into a tree at the roadside on Anderson Drive at its roundabout junction with Broomhill Road on the 14th of September. The van partially blocked one lane which required officers to attend for traffic management and to assist with the recovery.
