Police Report - April 2024

Our Local Policing Unit have issued the monthly report for April:-

"Community Policing Priorities

Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
A resident of Cranford Road reported that overnight on the 20th of March the words “AYO GoD” were spray painted on the wall. The neighbour also saw a male trying car doors. There was no damage as the  paint washed off, and there were no reports of any cars opened, but I would take the opportunity to remind residents to take a second to check their vehicles are secure at night and not give thieves the opportunity.

Acquisitive Crime:
A resident of Deeside Gardens became the victim of “sextortion” type offence. The youth had been communicating with someone online, who quickly turned the conversation to a sexualised nature and started asking for nude images. The youth advised her parents, who contacted the police. Enquiries are ongoing but the number is registered abroad, as such a package will be sent via the Specialist Crime Division, International Unit to the relevant authority.
On the 22nd of March, Coop on Countesswells Road reported a theft from their store, of around £80 of food. The same male reattended on the 30th of March and stole alcohol, and again at Tesco on the 31st. The distinctive appearance of the male with a tattoo on his neck was linked to a few shopliftings across the South of Aberdeen in the preceding weeks. The male was traced and charged with over 10 thefts and was held in custody to appear the next day, where he was released on Bail by the Court.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
Whilst slightly outwith the community council area, I am aware that there was significant interest due to the extent of the road closures. On the 20th of March a cyclist and car collided at the junction of Cromwell Road and Anderson Drive. Due to the serious nature of the collision Road Policing Units attended and took over the management of the incident. The driver of the car was charged with careless driving.
Throughout the month there have been reports of “Suron” dirt bikes in the Duthie Terrace and Broomhill area, these are high powers electric bikes, which are unregistered, and the riders often have no helmet or protection and ignore road safety laws. Due to the inherent risk involved with any interaction with these bikes, Divisional Police Officers are not allowed to pursue these bikes and must call upon the specialist advanced drivers of Road Policing Units, which are based in Inverurie and Mintlaw.

Community Engagement & Reassurance
At the end of March, Police received a spate of calls regarding parking offences around Deeside Gardens, Craigton Terrace and at the Shopping precinct area on Great Western Road. The residents were advised that as Aberdeen City Council Decriminalised the regulations, the responsibility to enforce double yellow lines are now with Aberdeen Council Wardens. Police will continue to deal with offences such as parking on Zig Zag areas around pedestrian crossings.

To simplify the contact these have all been merged into AberdeenSouthCPT@scotland.police.uk
Emails to this address will still be dealt with by the Officers of the local policing teams, however it will hopefully make it easier for residents to get to the right area in the first instance.
