Police Report - June 2024

The following information has been issued by our local Policing Unit:

"Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
On the 2nd of June Police were called to Gray Street regarding 2 people walking back and forth along the road, and a local resident believed they were “casing “the houses. Officers attended and identified the 2 people and spoke to them, they couldn’t provide a reason for being in the area but left after officers approached them. Whilst this isn’t a crime it’s a reminder for residents to remain vigilant.
On the evening of the 15th Police were called to Aberdeen Squash Racket Club regarding a drunk male refusing to leave and attempting to assault staff. On arrival it was identified that the male had been at a function within the venue. The male was charge with the offences and conveyed to his home address.

Acquisitive Crime:
With the highly publicised increase in shoplifting, which is a national trend, in the Westend and Hazlehead we are trying to have allocated officers dealing with areas so that they get a better understanding of the theft in their area and work closely with the retail crime forum to identify known offenders.
The Co-op on Counteswells Road reported a theft of alcohol on the 25th on May, where 2 males entered the store and concealed alcohol to the value of £40. The incident was reported after the event, and  enquiries are ongoing to identify the males responsible.

On the morning of the 28th of May, a resident of Great Western Road, attended at his car which was parked on Morningfield Lane, and found that his vehicle had been rummaged through, the glove box opened, and items strewn about the car. No items appeared to be missing. The resident required their car for work so would not wait for a Scenes of Crime officer to attend. The enquiry is ongoing but has been linked to several other ones across the Westend and Hazlehead Area, as well as further afield across the city.
On the 3rd of June, Police received a report from the resident of Seafield Road, advising that a male had attended at her address and offered to sell a variety of cleaning items, and had a well-rehearsed selling line that he was just out of prison and was working for a charity. These sellers have been going about for several months, and whilst they have the required trading licence the items are of very poor quality and are at inflated prices, as such Police Scotland refer these calls to Aberdeen City Council trading standards.

On the 8th and 9th of June, Tesco on Great Western Road, called and reported a male had entered the store and stolen alcohol, they knew the male as he has previously been charged with thefts, and  currently has a bail condition not to enter the store. He was traced a short time later and charged with the offences, and put to court the next lawful day, where unfortunately he was released again with bail conditions.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
Westend and Hazlehead have been carrying out speed enforcement around schools this month, as with better weather more children are walking to school. We carried out speed enforcement at Airyhall Primary and Ferryhill Primary and worked with Aberdeen City Council Community Wardens regarding parking offences at Ashley Road Primary.

Community Engagement & Reassurance
On the morning of 3 June, several Police units attended Northcote Crescent, whilst the significant police presence, including some Armed Response Officers, may have alarmed some local residents, it was regarding a medical matter and Police were there to support the Scottish Ambulance Service Crew.  The Armed Response Unit attended as all Armed Response Officers are trained in advanced First Aid and carry significant medical packs and defib packs in their vehicles.
To simplify the contact these have all been merged into AberdeenSouthCPT@scotland.police.uk
Emails to this address will still be dealt with by the Officers of the local policing teams, however it will hopefully make it easier for residents to get to the right area in the first instance.
