BESS - Opportunity to send objections closes 10 January

The opportunity to submit objections to the development of a grid battery energy storage system (BESS) facility, and associated development on Land At Newton Of Pitfodels Aberdeen AB15 7AL – opposite Ben Reids in Countesswells Road closes on 10 January 2025
Braeside and Mannofield Community Council and our neighbouring Community Councils have serious concerns regarding the siting of a BESS at this location and are working together to object to the appeal.
To date over 200 people have signed the petition and sent a letter of objection to the Scottish Government.
We still need your help. The more objections that are made, the more likely it will be that this development does not get the go ahead.

URGENT - Countesswells Road BESS application appealed

URGENT     URGENT     URGENT     URGENT     URGENT

On 19 September 2024, Aberdeen City Council rejected an application to install a grid battery energy storage system (BESS) facility, and associated development on Land At Newton Of Pitfodels Aberdeen AB15 7AL – opposite Ben Reids in Countesswells Road

The developers, Flexion Energy UK Storage, 27 Old Gloucester Street London WC1N 3AX, have now appealed that decision.

The surrounding Community Councils have serious concerns regarding the siting of a BESS at this location and are working together to object to the appeal on the following grounds.

The development;
  • Destroys valuable green belt land negating any perceived environmental benefit
  • Does not comply with Scottish Government policy (NPF4) or Aberdeen Local Development Plan (ALDP)
  • Undermines the Green Space Network
  • Is on an unsuitable site due to flooding
  • Relatively new technology with significant incidents – inappropriately close to residential homes, playing fields and schools
  • Requires a full HSE risk assessment before a planning application is approved
