Crime Overview
In the Braeside and Mannofield Community, there were a total of 93 calls in January 2025. This is an increase 37 of calls compared to December 2024. Calls to Police predominantly related to non-criminal matters including, concern for persons, missing persons, assisting the public and false calls with good intent.
As a result of these incidents, and proactive Police activity, 22 crimes were recorded in the Braeside and Mannofield community during January 2025. This is the same number of crimes in December 2024.
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder
Acquisitive Crime
On 05/01/2025 in the area of Braeside Avenue, a suspicious male was caught on a ring doorbell camera. The male was seen to be trying to hide his face from the camera before trying to interfere with said camera but to no avail. Vigilance regarding security and private CCTV systems is encouraged.
The community should remain vigilant and consider the following advice.
- Ensure all vehicles and property are secured when not in use.
- Consider the installation of CCTV cameras covering private property.
- Ensure that you are comfortable with the identity of persons before providing personal information over the telephone. If in doubt, hang up contact Police via 101 for further advice.
On 04/01/2025 within the area of Airyhall Avenue, Aberdeen a driver was found to be driving whilst unfit. A member of the public phoned in concern for suspect who was sleeping in a running vehicle but unable to be roused awake. Officers have attended and checks carried out showed the suspect had a revoked substantive licence and did not have insurance to drive the vehicle she was occupying. Following roadside procedures, the suspect tested positive on a drugs wipe. They were thereafter arrested and reported to the Procurator Fiscal on various Road Traffic charges.
Road safety remains a priority for the North East Police Division, and local resources will continue to undertake high visibility proactive patrols to ensure your roads are safe.
Community Safety Advice - Beware of Broadband Supplier Scams
Already this year in the Northeast, we have seen several instances of phone scams targeting broadband customers, the scammers usually employ the following tactics:
- Claim to be from your broadband provider and state there is a fault with your service.
- Request personal information such as your account number, password, or bank details.
- Instruct you to download and install remote access software (e.g., AnyDesk, TeamViewer) to "troubleshoot" the issue. This allows scammers to gain control of your computer.
- Demand immediate payment to rectify the alleged fault, often pressuring you to make a quick decision.
- Never provide personal information to anyone who calls you unsolicited, even if they claim to be from your broadband provider.
- Do not download and install any software recommended by unknown callers.
- If you suspect a scam, hang up immediately.
- Contact your broadband provider directly using the phone number on your bill or official website to verify any reported issues.
- Be wary of unexpected calls regarding your broadband service.
- Install and maintain up-to-date anti-virus and anti-malware software on your devices.
