Community Bench Refurbished

In 2017, the Community Council funded a wooden bench, half way up the hill on Springfield Road between Craigton Road and North Deeside Road.

Recently we noticed it had become a little sad looking and were taking steps to refurbish it.

We asked the Council if they would refurbish it and were advised that this was not possible as it belonged to the Community Council and was our responsibility.

Just as we had made the plans to sand it down and give it a lick of paint, we noticed that the work had been done for us.

Whoever it was that took the time to give it a lick of paint - THANK YOU

Biodiversity recording - facebook page

Braeside and Mannofield Community Council have a Biodiversity Subgroup. The group was formed to collate information on the flora and fauna of our area, in particular the greenbelt land.

Our mission is to record and document the incredible biodiversity within our local area. We are lucky to be surrounded by Greenbelt and a thriving Conservation Area and to ensure we continue to have these areas protected, we want to keep track of the wonderful diversity of wildlife and plantlife to be found here.

Everyone in tie Community can be involved! We have created a Facebook page as a space for everyone to share sightings of local flora and fauna — from bats and bees to flowers and foxes please let us know what you have seen. The more detail you can include the better, and we'd love it if you could add photographs too!

There are two little phone apps that can help identify what you hear and see.  Merlin will record bird song and will tell you what bird is making the call while taking a plant photo in Seek will check the internet and identify the plant for you

Your observations and sightings will help build a valuable record of the natural world around us and you will also be part of an exciting Citizen Science initiative.

We invite you to be a  part of this journey to record, protect and appreciate the diversity of wildlife in our natural spaces in Braeside and Mannofield!

Police Report - April 2025

The latest report from our local policing team is copied below;

"This report aims to highlight emerging issues in your area, and to provide crime prevention advice and guidance to Community Council members and the residents you represent. Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

Crime Overview
We are pleased to announce improvements in the way statistics are provided to Community Councils. Previously, the manual generation of stats due to misalignment between Community Council boundaries and Police beat codes led to occasional inaccuracies and was time-consuming. Now, the North East Police division will provide data that aligns with police beat codes, some of which encompass multiple Community Council areas. We have also updated previous data to ensure comparable statistics are readily accessible.

In the Braeside and Mannofield community, there were a total of 132 calls in April 2025. This is a decrease of 8 calls compared to March 2025. Calls to Police predominantly related to non-criminal matters including, concern for persons, missing persons, assisting the public and false calls with good intent.

As a result of these incidents, and proactive Police activity, 30 crimes were recorded in the Braeside and Mannofield community during April 2025. This is a decrease of 4 crimes recorded since March 2025.

Community Safety Advice
A North East resident recently received a call on their mobile phone from a male claiming to be a Sheriff Officer. He was very assertive and stated that he was coming to their home with a locksmith and would be removing goods to the value of an unpaid bill.

The resident was not at home and panicked, so paid the ‘bill’ by transferring the money from their bank account direct to the male, to ensure they would not attend at their home.

They then called their bank who confirmed it was a scam.

The North East Crime Reduction Team: “We urge people to remain vigilant to criminals making contact by telephone in an attempt to separate them from their money. Do not entertain anyone who contacts you by telephone and directs you to transfer money to a different bank account. The Police or your bank will never ask you to transfer money to a safe account or contact you to ask for your full PINs,  passwords or passcodes. If you believe you have been a victim of a telephone scam, contact Police Scotland on 101.

Always remember to:

  • Verify their identity by contacting the organization directly using official contact details you find yourself. Do not use any contact information provided by the caller.
  • Remember Caller ID can be faked. Even if the caller ID shows a legitimate organization, it could be a scammer using spoofing technology.
  • Always verify independently.
  • Do not click on links in unexpected emails, texts, or social media messages. These could be phishing attempts designed to steal your personal information.
  • Recognize Red Flags such as high-pressure tactics or urgent language demanding immediate action, requests for personal information or security codes and threats of legal action if you do not comply.
If you believe you may have been a victim of a scam, contact your bank or financial institution immediately.

Report to Police Scotland directly by calling 101 or online via Contact Police Scotland

Reporting Red Squirrel sightings

Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels is working with local communities to ensure red squirrels will always be a part of Scotland’s special native wildlife. Together with partners, landowners and a network of local groups and volunteers, they focus on the areas where red squirrels are most under threat from the spread of the invasive grey squirrel.

In many places, red squirrels are already making a comeback.

The charity is asking anyone who spots a red squirrel anywhere in Scotland to report the sighting on their web site. Squirrel Sightings – Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels
