Police Report - September 2018

This report covers progress we have made in dealing with your priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st September to 30th September 2018.

Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder: 

The Antisocial Behaviour calls within the area have comprised mostly of calls relating to poor behaviour from across the age spectrum with regarding people carrying on the party on their way home, whilst no one expects people to walk back from parties or the pub in silence a little thought to the residential areas you are passing through would be appreciated. Whilst not immediately a cause for concern such behaviour can often lead to vandalisms and concern calls later in the evening, so if you think it could turn into something else let us know. 

There have been no reported of vandalisms or assaults during the reporting period.

Acquisitive Crime:

There has been an attempted robbery at the TESCO on Great Western Road in which a male threatened Staff, fortunately, no one was hurt or anything taken. In relation to this attempted robbery we would like to trace the an seen in this CCTV picture.

There have been no reports of other acquisitive crime during this period. 

We would reiterate when conducting your night time routine in addition to checking the doors are locked please check you haven’t left your keys in the outside of the door lock or left your vehicles unlocked as has happened recently.

Road Safety & Road Crime:

In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.

Whilst your local officers predominately detect Drink Drivers as part of specific speeding patrols or on route to other calls there have been 3 occasions this month in which we have been assisted by members of the local community who have seen someone within a local licenced premises clearly intoxicated and about to drive then informed the police. Please never hesitate to contact us if you see a drink driver or someone about to drive, remember it is a crime in progress and one which can have very serious consequences for innocent members of our community.

Community Engagement & Reassurance: 

Now the schools are back our young people will have formed new friendships and moved into new groups, whilst the evenings are still lighter and the weather good our outdoor spaces are just the place for them. 

When we are telling them you stay out longer/explore further because you’re a year on please let that advice include where not to go and the reasons why. We have a significant number of building sites and derelict buildings within our area which young people are attracted to because they offer excitement and are out of the public view, they all so offer in many cases a significant danger once you have climbed past the security barriers. 

As the nights start to grow longer and the time approaches for the clocks to go back we would encourage you to take a look at your property: 

* Ensure that unneeded tools and furniture (particularly ladders) are securely locked away

* Have you have adjusted your evening routine to ensure there is a light on at home, even when you're out? We know this can mean a constant fiddle with time clocks as it gets darker earlier however having a light on at home in the evenings is a significant deterrent. 

Take the change in seasons as a prompt to review your security regarding not just outside lighting but also what physical measures you could take and think, if you were locked out how would you get in, if the answer is other than getting the spare key from a friend or family (not under a plant pot) you are leaving yourself vulnerable.  http://www.scotland.police.uk/keep-safe/home-and-personal-property/secure-your-home

The importance of the relationship between you the Community Council and us your CPT in preventing crime cannot be underestimated, you are an integral part of our community and as such have access to information and opinions not open or readily accessible to us. You can help us in being able to take local action on behalf of local people. We will continue to feed back to you at the Community Council meetings regarding the specific points you have raised. National Campaigns

This time of year a number of our young people take their first forays into the night time economies in both the City and Shire, as exciting as it can be for the young people it can be a worrying time for families.  The North East of Scotland is one of the safest places in Western Europe however a timely reminder that one of the City's successes the "Ask for Angela" scheme has been extended to the Shire, it's worth everyone taking a look.
