Police Report - July 2019
The report aims to highlight emerging issues in the area, and provide crime prevention advice and guidance to residents. The focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.
Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder: There has been a report of a vandalism to a window in the disused Braeside School, of you see people hanging about overnight please let us know.
There have been no assaults reported during this period.
Acquisitive Crime: There has been a report of a fraud in relation to a Dating Scam, if you know anyone who is about to send money to someone they don’t know or have an online relationship with but have never met, please take time to ask them about it and potentially save them a significant amount of money.
Road Safety & Road Crime: In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.Community Engagement & Reassurance: This month and next month will see a number of additional directed local patrols, you will be aware of those in relation to home security last month, this next month will concentrate on Anti Social Behaviour around our school premises and play parks.
Whilst we would encourage all of our young people to use our local parks and play spaces they must do so responsibly.
Our home security patrols show an improvement year on year, this year it was 1 in 5 of the properties which were insecure. Be under no illusion this improvement is down to the hard work on all our parts in getting the message to lock your doors out to our neighbours and friends, it’s a real community effort to drive down the number of insecure premises and the possibility of being a victim of crime along with it.
It is worth noting however all the thefts this month relate to insecure premise and / or vehicles.
- If there is a Fire of ANY kind involved (from a wheelie bin to a camp fire) call Scottish FIRE and Rescue,
- If you are trapped in a lift call Scottish Fire and RESCUE
- If you come across an individual who is unconscious or unresponsive call Scottish AMBULANCE Service
Calling the Police because you don’t want to bother the correct emergency service is not appropriate and can delay in the correct service attending as we will call them on your behalf and await their instruction.
There have been concerns raised locally regarding email / messenger frauds, we would urge you;
- No matter how nice/flattering/concerning/your new best friend potential partner is – if you haven’t met them in person and no matter what or how plausible their excuse is DO NOT send them money.
- If you have a friend you know and have met who suddenly messages you asking for money and they have never done so before, pick up the phone and speak to them in person, you don’t know their messages haven’t been hacked (particularly in Facebook) so when you send them money it’s going to a fraudster.
- No Government Agency will ever ask you to buy a payment voucher (iTunes etc) and have you send them the payment code on it nor I would suggest would any of your friends/family.
And finally the eternal message of please lock garden tools & cycles away after use and if you're in the back garden is your front door unlocked?
National CampaignsSchool's out, the lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us, and all over Scotland, people are unwinding in the sunshine (between intermittent periods of breaking out the anoraks and wellies). Lawnmowers and BBQs are being fired up, youths are enjoying the weeks of freedom between terms, and parents are trying to keep the wee ones entertained.
