Police Report - August 2019 - Braeside and Mannofield Community Council

This is the latest report from the local policing unit, covers progress made in dealing with the priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during August 2019.

Community Policing Priorities

Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:

There has been a report of deer poaching in the fields along Craigton Road, if you see anyone with a rifle or whom you think given their appearance and equipment may be poaching deer please contact us immediately.

There have been no vandalisms or assaults during this period.

Acquisitive Crime:

There has been a break in and a theft of keys from a local sporting premises, if you hear something that sounds like breaking glass late at night please get in touch.

There has been a report report of a fraud in relation to a “Safe Account” scam in which a 5 figure sum was taken. Your bank will never ever contact you and ask you to move money into a safe account regardless of how plausible the call seems. In reality when you move your money like this the chances are you won’t see it again, we are unlikely to recover it and the banks won’t repay you.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.

Community Engagement & Reassurance

Now the schools are back our young people will have formed new friendships and moved into new groups, whilst the evenings are still lighter and the weather good our outdoor spaces are just the place for them.

When we are telling them they can stay out longer/explore further because you’re a year on please let that advice include where not to go and the reasons why.

Young people feel safe almost anonymous in a group setting however often being part of the audience can be as risky as the person doing the daft thing for entertainment, hanging about the local shops whilst getting them out of the house rarely leads to positive things.

We have a significant number of building sites and derelict buildings within our area which young people are attracted to because they offer excitement and are out of the public view, they all so offer in many cases a significant danger once you have climbed past the security barriers.

Over the next couple of months we will be looking to better inform everyone in relation to Internet Security & Cybercrime and what you can do not to become a victim.

Ask yourself these questions, would you let your 13 year old go out to play games with a group of other people aged 13-30 whom you never seen, will never meet and whose conversation you will never hear – but who your 13year old thinks are really decent and cool? I thought not, but you probably don’t do much internet gaming either!

Would you give someone you know intimately, someone with whom you have shared pictures videos, confided your thoughts, dreams and desires with £1000s if they were in absolute desperate need of it and would definitely pay you back? When they arrive in the UK but you have never actually seen them in the flesh?

Many do, often to the tune of £20-30,000 then the contact just vanishes If you have a friend or relative who suddenly has the most perfect new best friend but has never actually been in the same room as them and they are about to send them money, be a friend and have the difficult discussion with them, then call us.

This time of year a number of our young people look to move away from home and into further education, the advice below will be invaluable in keeping those loved ones safe as well as their property with them.

It can be a daunting time for any young person and their family however significantly more support and advice is available than in years gone by.
