Police Report - September 2019

We have recieved the latest Police report covering activities in our area -

"This report covers progress we have made in dealing with your priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st September to 30th September 2019.

Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
There has been a report of a vandalism to a vehicle overnight, such mindless acts have a significant impact on their victims.

Given a significant part of our area comprises the route home from a night out for many parts of the city we would ask you to keep an eye out for those you see who maybe a little the worse for wear or intent on having an argument with themselves and you have a concern please let us know it may prevent accidental damage, vandalism or worse.

There have been no reported assaults during this period.

Acquisitive Crime:
There has been a report of a theft of number plates from a parked car overnight in addition to a purse taken from a shopping basket in a local supermarket.
Whilst not something which is on the increase, if you are buying number plates it worth considering spending a little extra for the antitheft ones or affixing them with screws.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.

Community Engagement & Reassurance:
I would take this opportunity to reiterate what we are often asked by parents when it comes to rights and freedoms for children, it is not oppressive parenting to know where your children are. Yes it’s great for them to enjoy the outdoors whist the weather allows it but I would remind all parents that we do not ship children in from other parts of the city to be a nuisance this part of the city. It its invariably local children causing local issues and we ALL have a part to play in ensuring their wellbeing and safety, that includes making sure they aren’t getting into trouble.

Later in the month the nights will to grow longer as the time approaches for the clocks to go back, we would encourage you to take a look at your property,

 Ensure that unneeded tools and furniture (particularly ladders) are securely locked away

 Have you have adjusted your evening routine to ensure there is a light on at home, even when you're out?

We know this can mean a constant fiddle with time clocks as it gets darker earlier however having a light on at home in the evenings is a significant deterrent.

 Take the change in seasons as a prompt to review your security regarding not just outside lighting but also what physical measures you could take and think, if you were locked out how would you get in, if the answer is other than getting the spare key from a friend or family (not under a plant pot) you are leaving yourself vulnerable.

Have a look through your shed or garage window and ask yourself could you get in and if you could you get away with the items inside

National Campaigns

This time of year a number of our young people look to move away from home and into further education, the advice below will be invaluable in keeping those loved ones safe as well as their property with them. It can be a daunting time for any young person and their family however significantly more support and advice is available than in years gone by.

What to know more about how we measure up, this is where to find out.
