Police Report - October 2018

This report has been issued by the local policing unit and covers progress made in dealing with community priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st October to 31st October 2018.

"The report aims to highlight emerging issues in your area, and to provide crime prevention advice and guidance to Community Council members and residents you represent. Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder: 

The Antisocial Behaviour calls within the area remain mostly calls relating to poor behaviour from across the age spectrum with regarding people carrying on the party on their way home. Whilst not immediately a cause for concern such behaviour can often lead to vandalisms and concern calls later in the evening, so if you think it could turn into something else let us know. 

There have been no reported of vandalisms or assaults during the reporting period.

Acquisitive Crime:

There have been no reports of any acquisitive crime in this reporting period. A theft of motorcycle nearby should be a reminder that unfortunately a steering lock is insufficient to secure a motorcycle and the use of a disc brake lock would be the minimum recommended.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
In the middle of the month we undertook a Roads Policing operation specially designed to address inappropriate speed on the local roads across the area you have asked us to be aware of. This resulted in some 88 people being spoken to by the Police for various offences, including one individual who had driven though quite a bit of our area before he was stopped as part of this operation, he was unable to read a number plate at the required distance and was subject to an immediate revocation of licence.

Community Engagement & Reassurance

Now the clocks have gone back we are all aware of the nights being just that little darker, this is the time at which we would hope you review your home security for the winter months,

 Make sure tools, garden equipment are locked away.

 Cycles should be locked to something in a garage or shed, we I know it’s a pain but that’s what makes them unattractive to steal.

 Look at the locks on your garage and shed, could you get past them easily if you needed to.

 Are you security lights still pointing in the right direction? Do their sensors need cleaning?

Over the last 3 weeks you may have seen our updates on Twitter regarding your local officers being out on foot checking our streets to identify homes which look unoccupied in the darkness. You may even have had an after dark postcard through your letterbox, I know quite few people have!

Take a moment when you come home in the evening to look at your house and ask yourself does it look occupied, if it doesn’t you need to do something about it.

When it comes to reporting Fires of ANY KIND please do not contact us and ask we attend to see if it’s ok to call the Fire Brigade, if you think someone should know about a fire whatever the circumstances call our colleagues in SFRS using 999, if they think we need to know they will contact us.

We have been asked for the following link quite a lot recently and it is in relation to vehicles parked on double yellow lines. Parking within Aberdeen City has been decriminalised since 2003 and its enforcement is not a matter for the Police, it is a matter for the City Wardens you can contact them here 03000 200 292 or if out of hours here citywardens@aberdeencity.gov.uk

The importance of the relationship between you the Community Council and us your CPT in preventing crime cannot be underestimated, you are an integral part of our community and as such have access to information and opinions not open or readily accessible to us.

You can help us in being able to take local action on behalf of local people.

National Campaigns
This time of year a number of our young people take their first forays into the night time economies in both the City and Shire, as exciting as it can be for the young people it can be a worrying time for families.

The North East of Scotland is one of the safest places in Western Europe however a timely reminder that one of the City's successes the "Ask Angela" scheme has been extended to the Shire, it's worth everyone taking a look.
