Police Report June 2023

This month's Police Report aims to highlight emerging issues in our area, and to provide crime prevention advice and guidance to residents.  The focus  is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

There have been very few incidents of crime in the Community Council area this month.

Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
A resident in Craigielea Gardens called and reported youths throwing items at her window on the evening of 1 June. The 3 youths (1 female and 2 males) were all around 10 -12 years old. Officers attended but the youths had left the area.

Acquisitive Crime:

On the 27th of May there was a report of a Robbery which occurred close to St Johns Terrace. A group of youths were threatened by another group, who were known to them with a knife and money was demanded. Despite all parties knowing each other this still met the definition of a robbery and as such CID took ownership and progressed the enquiry. The 2 youths responsible have been traced, charged and reported to Youth Justice Management Unit

In the early hours of 29th May, a resident of Great Western Road called Police regarding 2 males that were seen acting suspiciously beside a car. Numerous Police Units attended and traced a male matching the description who had screwdrivers in his possession. The individual had a history of breaking into cars, and was charged and cited for court.

The manager of Tesco, Great Western Road reported the theft of a low quantity of alcohol on the 4th of June.  He described 3 persons entering the store and leaving without paying. CCTV of the incident has been obtained and the persons responsible have been identified.

There were several reports from Wellbrae Terrace on the 17th of a male going door to door offering to do gardening work or clean gutters. Whilst there was no crime established, the advice would be to only use reputable workmen that you call rather than those who attend at your door uninvited.

Road Safety & Road Crime:
Officers attended a Road Traffic Collision on the 14th of June, where a car had collided with traffic lights at the junction of Anderson Drive and Kings Gate.  The Driver was uninjured and Police were required for traffic management due to the position of the car and its extensive damage.

Community Engagement & Reassurance

Whilst it is out with the community I felt it important to highlight, a crime where an elderly resident of Craigieburn Park, was contacted in mid-May allegedly by a male from the Financial Conduct Authority, who advised they were investigating thefts at the Santander Bank. He then went through so “security questions” during with the victim was transferred to someone allegedly from Grampian Police, who again confirmed that the enquiry was legitimate and he couldn’t talk to anyone about the phone calls

These calls happened for several days and resulted in the elderly male transferring over £175,000 out of his account to various other accounts, before a member of his family found out and contacted Police. CID have taken ownership of the enquiry and are working with the Bank to trace the money.
